5.1.1 Third-Party AI Data Sharing
IMPORTANT: MotoLogger uses Anthropic's Claude AI as its sole third-party AI provider. This section describes exactly what data is shared and how it is used.
Data Shared with Anthropic:
MotoLogger sends certain data to Anthropic's Claude AI to power smart features. All AI processing is performed via Anthropic's API through MotoLogger's secure server-side infrastructure (Firebase Cloud Functions). The MotoLogger app never communicates directly with Anthropic.
A. Chat Features (Bike Chat, Help Chat, General Chat):
- Your chat messages and questions
- Conversation history within the current chat session
- Bike context information (make, model, year, mileage) when using bike-specific chat
- Recent service history (up to 10 records including dates, service types, and notes)
- Upcoming maintenance schedule information
- Images of relevant service manual pages (rendered on your device, sent transiently for analysis)
- Photos of motorcycle components you submit for identification or advice
B. Document Processing (OCR and Data Extraction):
- Photos of documents you scan or upload, including:
- Vehicle registration certificates
- Service invoices and receipts
- Insurance policy documents
- Road tax and vehicle tax documents
- Inspection/MOT/NCT certificates
- Anthropic's AI extracts structured data (dates, amounts, reference numbers, vehicle details) to enable automatic form filling
C. Service Manual Processing:
- Pages from your service manual (rendered as images on your device)
- Manual metadata (manufacturer name, table of contents)
- Extracted maintenance schedules and technical specifications
How Your Data Is Used by Anthropic:
- Data is processed in real-time via Anthropic's API and is not retained by Anthropic after processing completes
- Anthropic does not use your data to train its AI models (per Anthropic's API terms, API inputs and outputs are not used for model training)
- Service manuals remain stored on your device only; MotoLogger servers never store or access your manual files
- Document images are processed transiently and are not stored by Anthropic
Your Consent:
- By using AI features (chat, document scanning, manual processing), you explicitly consent to sharing the data described above with Anthropic
- AI consent is mandatory for AI features: If you decline AI data sharing consent, the following features will be disabled:
- Chat with AI assistant (bike-specific questions, maintenance advice, app help)
- Automatic document scanning and form auto-fill
- Service manual processing and extraction
- You can still use all core app functionality with manual data entry (adding bikes, logging services, viewing records, etc.)
- You can withdraw your consent at any time, which will immediately disable AI features going forward
- Core app functionality (manual data entry, viewing records, etc.) does not require AI data sharing consent
Third-Party Privacy Policies:

- AI-generated content (maintenance suggestions, extracted data, chat responses) is clearly presented as AI output
- AI suggestions are not fully automated decision-making — you always review and confirm extracted data before it is saved
- You always retain control over maintenance decisions
- You can opt-out of AI features while still using core functionality
